  1. Liechtenstein became a sovereign nation in 1866.  Austria
  2. administered Liechtenstein's ports up to 1920 and Switzerland has
  3. administered its postal service since 1921.  Liechtenstein is
  4. united with Switzerland by customs and monetary union.  Taxes are
  5. low and many international corporations have headquarters there. 
  6. Foreign workers make up a third of the population.  The 1986
  7. general elections were the first in which women were allowed to
  8. vote.                    @
